Carolyn “Jeanie” Herman of Cañon City since 2015 passed away on Nov. 11, 2017, in Colorado Springs.
She was born on Feb. 14, 1947 to Leslie “Les” Vern Kerr and Elizabeth Ruth Hester in Griffin, Ind.
Jeanie attended school in Mount Pleasant, Mich. She was a very loving mother, sister, friend and grandmother who was always there to listen to anyone and give a shoulder to cry on.
She was a single mother and raised five daughters without any complaints. After her daughters were grown, she took on caring for her father and then her mother.
Jeanie always thought of others before she thought of herself. She was a member of the Cornerstone Church in Buena Vista and taught Sunday School youth group and Bible Camp. She loved reading her Bible and would always be available to pray with you or for you. Jeanie enjoyed arts and crafts to occupy her free time. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Jeanie is survived by her daughters Lori Schumacher and husband Dean of Cañon City, Tammy Magee and husband Tim of Buena Vista, Sherry Moreland and husband DeDe of Buena Vista, Kari Stinnette and Kory Stewart of Buena Vista; sister Judy Kerr of Cuba, N.M.; brothers Beau Kerr of Fort Collins, and Don Kerr and wife Del of Buena Vista; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and her lifelong friend Ruth Newland of Jackson, Mich. who was like a sister to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Tracy Determan and son-in-laws Jarome Determan and Guy Titus.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Cornerstone Church in Buena Vista.
Burial will be private at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Buena Vista, with a reception to follow at the church when the family returns from the cemetery.
