Friends of Browns Canyon will host a volunteer workday to commemorate National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The goals of the workday include installing a horse crossing at the Wilderness Study Area boundary at the northern terminus of FSR 184; installing brush pile barricades to prevent motorized trespass and resource damage north of FSR 184; installing new signs indicating the WSA boundaries within the National Monument and signs indicating the end of FSR 184.

Volunteers are asked to meet at 7:30 a.m. at Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area headquarters at 307 Sackett Ave., Salida.

Transportation will be organized for the approximately 1.5 hours drive to the work site.  Volunteers should bring a sack lunch, water, sunscreen, hat, gloves, and so on.

Work should take about four hours, so the group should be back at AHRA headquarters approximately 3 p.m.
