The Central Colorado Humanists will present ‘For Love of Beer: A Look Inside the Process of Brewing’ at the next Sunday Science session on Jan. 7.

The popular science program will be held in a new location: The SteamPlant Event Center Ballroom, 220 W. Sackett Ave., from 10 a.m. to noon.

The program will be presented by Christian Koch, Director of Brewing operations at Salida’s Elevation Beer Company.

Beer was being produced by ancient brewers as long as 7,000 years ago in pottery jars, and the science of brewing and fermentation has vastly improved through modern instrumentation, quality control techniques and innovative yeast cultures that give brewers the ability to produce a wide variety of taste in beers.

Come and learn about the science of barley malting, yeast and the fermentation processes.

Koch graduated from Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania in 2004 with a degree in Psychology. After relocating to Denver following graduation, he began home brewing beer and quickly grew in experience. His first professional brewing experience came in 2009 at Tommyknocker Brewery. He moved to Salida in 2012 and helped found the award-winning Elevation Brewery.

CCH sponsors the Sunday Science presentations on the first Sunday of each month and the programs are followed by a discussion.

Admission is free while donations to defer costs are always welcome, and light refreshments will be provided.
