The Buena Vista varsity wrestling team finished third at the Eagle Valley Invite, scoring 143 points. Ahead of them were Cedaredge with 183 and host Eagle Valley with 165 in the 16-team tournament.
Micah Hertrich won the 160-pound bracket by defeating Conrad Demann of Grand Valley 3-1 in the championship match.
Chris Hutchings (113), Isaac Hutchings (120), Seth Moss (170) and Tim Sullivan (220) all placed second in their weight class.
Other placers were David Arellano (126) third, Haden Camp (145) fourth, Jim Gabriel (182) fourth, and Isaiah Romero (195) third.
Buena Vista wrestlers placing in the junior varsity level of the tournament were Yakov Foley (106) fifth, Zach Dylan (106) fourth, Sam Starr (126) second and Owen Rhoads (152) second.
“It was a good tourney for us up and down the lineup,” said coach Jared Todd. “We showed improvement in the positions that I was hoping to see some advancement. We got better with our set ups, motion, and wrist side series.“We will see where we stand this week in the soul crusher tourney in Florence. The junior varsity will be at a tough tourney in Trinidad.”
The tournament in Florence is a 2-day affair starting at 11:30 a.m. on Friday and continuing through the day Saturday.
