The Buena Vista volleyball team had a bounce back week with two wins.

They picked up a 3-2 league win at James Irwin Oct. 22, and went on the road to win 3-0 at Pagosa Springs Oct. 26.

“We didn’t play our best volleyball, but we mad it happen,” said Coach Jamie Page when referring to the win at James Irwin. “We struggled with the basics and had a hard time serve receiving.”

James Irwin served 19 aces against the Lady Demons in the five games and Buena Vista only passed at a 1.39. Their goal is to pass at a 2.0. The team struggled to get into an offense and therefore only hit at a .169.

Maddy McFee led the team with 12 kills, and Sage McGinnis followed with 10.

“They turned on their game for Pagosa and played the best they have played in a few weeks,” said Page. “We hit .253 as a team and passed at a 1.72 while serving at 94 percent.

“Our main back row players Lexi Petri, Maddy Atha and Tanner Richmond picked up their passing game. That put us in a position to run a great offense.”

Lindsey Pratt led with eleven kills and 18 digs on the Lady Pirates home court. Atha and McGinnis both passed at a rate over 2.0.

Buena Vista is 9-8 on the season with an 8-4 Tri-Peaks League record.

They are in fourth place in the league behind Colorado Springs Christian, Lamar and St. Mary’s. They set in the 28th overall position in the all-important RPI standings for playoff seeding.

Regular season play will conclude with a non-league road game at Gunnison Oct. 31.

Buena Vista will host an eight-team tournament on Saturday, Nov. 2. Regional playoff seeding and sights will then be announced on Monday, Nov. 4.
