The Buena Vista Lady Demon soccer team hosted DelNorte April 9, losing 6-0, and then Evangelical Christian Academy on Saturday, April 13. It was a very close game, but the host Buena Vista fell 3-2 in overtime.
The two teams were knotted at one after the first half of play. Buena Vista built a 2-1 lead in the second half and then ECA tied it at two with 7 minutes remaining.
The Lady Demons were on the offensive attack throughout when they took 14 shots on goal. Leading the way was Kristin Knowles with four. Tori McManamay had three shots as well. Taking two shots were Scout McMurry, Jamison Litvay and Halley DeWalt.
Litvay scored the first goal on a great breakaway play. Knowles had the assist on the play and then scored the second goal for the Lady Demons on a penalty kick after she was taken down in the box. Litvay and Knowles are both freshmen.
“It is awesome to see that our freshmen are becoming playmakers and really contributing,” said coach Olivia Fear. “Although we lost we had nine different girls take shots on goal. We are starting to create some great opportunities in our attacking third.”
They had to postpone a league contest at Manitou Springs April 11 due to weather. That game was to be made up April 16.
The team will travel to Lake County to play a non-league contest April 18 and then will be back home to host Vanguard on April 20 with an 11 a.m. start.
