I forgot how good it feels. Two years ago, I moved to Buena Vista from Teller County. Being fully retired, I had my fair share of free time.

Not to say that all the activities going on here in BV didn’t keep me busy, but there was still something missing, and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

So I decided it was time to get more connected with the community and see how I might be of help to whomever.

Enter, the Rotary Club here in BV. Wow, was I impressed. Here was an organization that was already active in locally supplying scholarships for high school students, monthly dinners for the Mission, organizing the Buena Vista Bike Fest and working along with high school students during the annual highway cleanup.

Internationally, it has helped support water, literacy and orphanage projects in places like Nicaragua, India and Mexico.

Did this fill the void I had? You bet. More importantly, it gave me that great feeling of comraderie with the men and women I work with here at the Rotary Club.

If you’re at all curious, contact me (Jim) at Schriever8@gmail.com and give yourself a little taste of what comraderie feels like.

Who knows, you might enjoy it.
