T. Dwaine McCallon M.D. went home to be with the Lord at his home, surrounded by family, on July 11, 2013.
He was born in 1937 to Dyrus B. and Delores T. McCallon in Ferndale, Michigan. He graduated from Madison High School, Madison Heights, Mich. in 1955. Dwaine married Barbara J. McNeal on Aug. 5, 1960. She graduated from Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing. He graduated from Wayne State University College of Medicine, Detroit, Mich. in 1963.
Dwaine’s internship was performed at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich. Pediatrics residency was accomplished at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
He received his Diplomate, American Board of Pediatrics in 1968. He practiced medicine in Royal Oak & West Bloomfield, Michigan.
In 1970, Dwaine spent two weeks training for the Army Reserve in the state of Colorado.
He fell in love with the area, and spent the next six summers there, vacationing with his family at Deer Valley Ranch.
In 1977 the family moved to Buena Vista, and Dwaine McCallon started his partnership with Robert McGowan M.D. at the Buena Vista Medical Clinic.
He left private practice in 1993 to become the full time physician at Buena Vista Correctional Facility. While working there he developed a Life Skills program to help inmates burdened with ADHD.
Dwaine traveled to California, Washington and Michigan giving lectures for others to start their own programs. He finished his career in private practice at Buena Vista Health Center, retiring in 2009.
Dwaine was a member and deacon at Buena Vista Baptist Church where he served his Lord faithfully.
He loved spending time with his family. His interests were American History, Revolutionary War and Settling the Western Frontier. He wanted to be remembered most for the compassion he had for others. His knowledge, sense of humor and smile will be missed by family and friends.
Dwaine is survived by his wife Barbara of 53 years, sons Tim and Paul, all of Buena Vista, son Mark (Janyce) and grandson Matthew, of Colorado Springs, step grandchildren Jordan (Jeffrey) Jerrod and Chance Smith, and great grandchild Greyson (due soon).
To honor his wishes there will be a small private memorial at a later date. Private cremation was held.
