85, excellent student and teacher
Donald Angelo Bongiorno was born in Chicago, Ill. on April 25, 1934. He was at Columbine Manor Care Center and entered Heaven’s Gates on May 28, 2019.
A hard-working husband and father, Don enjoyed both the busy urban comforts and the calming pace and outwardly friendly nature of rural living.
Don was an excellent student and teacher, served his country admirably in Korea and possessed an unwavering pursuit of providing for his family.
Don had an unwavering faith in God. Studying Theology, his never-ending pursuit of learning and having a better understanding of his faith spanned more than 3/4’s of his life. Don led prayer, religious discussion groups with fellow parishioners and church leaders alike, with a steady and sharp mind.
He was an Insurance underwriter from 1955-1992; was in the U.S. Army and then military police 1953-1955.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, former Knight of Columbus and Marriage Encounter leader.
Don was preceded in death by his granddaughter Megan J. Bongiorno and his son Stephen F. Bongiorno.
Don is survived by his wife of 60 years Roberta Bongiorno; son Mark (Liz) Bongiorno; his daughter Amy (Scott) Fortin; son Paul (Renee) Bongiorno; eight grandchildren, Mark Bongiorno II, Nicholas Bongiorno, Jonathan Paul Bongiorno, Matthew Bongiorno, Anthony Bongiorno, William Bongiorno, Sierra Fortin and Sydney Fortin.
A funeral will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 118 South Gunnison Ave. in Buena Vista on Saturday, June 29, at 11 a.m.
