Zelda Faye Upchurch, 80, of Butcher Pen, Okla., died Sept. 10, 2011, in Tishamingo, Okla., nursing home with family and loved ones by her side.
Funeral services were Sept. 13 at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel in Durant, Okla.
Zelda was born Oct. 16, 1931, in Bennington, Okla., to Charles and Avis Robison. She was the fifth of six children with four brothers and one sister.
In 1947 she married Webster Wesley Upchurch. They had three boys when they moved to Leadville in 1953. Later they moved to Climax and finally made their home in Buena Vista. In the 1970s they retired and moved back to Oklahoma.
Zelda tended bar at the Buena Vista Hotel, Green Parrot Bar and the Lariat Bar. Zelda enjoyed gardening and canning everything she grew. She loved to cook, quilt and fish for bass. The greatest joy in Zelda's life was her family and friends. She was surrounded almost all the time by both. Zelda's children and grandchildren were the pride of her life.
Those who knew her loved and enjoyed her company. She loved to have her house full of people. She would cook up a grand feast with wonderful desserts. After a good meal games would be played: cards, board games, dominos and more.
Zelda was preceded in death by her parents, husband Webster (Shorty) Upchurch, son Eddie Duane and three brothers.
Zelda is survived by two sons, Charles W. Upchurch and Donald R. Upchurch, and one sister and one brother, all of Oklahoma. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: James Wesley (Wes) Upchurch of Buena Vista; Duane (D.R.) Upchurch and his children, Shelby Ann and Zach Charles, all of Elko, Nev.; Kari Ann Clark (Brad) and their son, Preston of Palmetto, Fla.; Cassandera Upchurch Deleon (Severo) and their children, Ariana, Matteo and Lucas, of Pueblo; Shane Upchurch of Farmington, N.M.; Aaron Upchurch of Farmington, N.M.; Matt Upchurch (Denise) and their children, Brittaney and Bethaney of Denver; Mark Dixon (Jennifer) and their son, David, of Buena Vista; Debbie Upchurch of Buena Vista; and Ann Upchurch of Farmington.
