Richard James Smythe, 75, of Buena Vista, died Jan. 26, 2011, in Denver.  He was born Oct. 13, 1935, in Idaho Springs to Theodore W. Smythe and Catherine Clara Rossen.  As a son, father, brother, uncle and grandfather, Richard enjoyed spending time with his whole family.  Richard enjoyed every aspect of the outdoors from taking pictures of wildlife to camping, and especially enjoyed hunting big bucks and elk.  He spent most of his life in Buena Vista.  Richard served in the United States Marine Corps and worked at Climax Mine until retirement. 

He is survived by sons Richard M. (DeAnna) Smythe, Buena Vista; Travis (Susan) Smythe, Hartsel; daughters Wendy Smythe, Florence; Jenna Smythe, Topeka, Kan.; granddaughter Madison Lou Smythe, Buena Vista; and  grandsons Trevor Monroe, Durango; Taylor and Trystin Smythe, Florence; and Dustin and Devin Smythe, Hartsel. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Lou Smythe; brother, Al Smythe; father, Theodore Smythe; and mother, Catherine Smythe.  Memorial service will be Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at 1 p.m. at at 15015 CR 350 (Crossman Avenue) Buena Vista. Arrangements were made through Runyan Mortuary.
