A crash involving a motorcycle and a 2013 Nissan at about 3:30 p.m., July 28, left one dead, three injured and U.S. 24 near Granite restricted to one lane for about 5 hours.
Cpl. Ivan Alvarado of the Colorado State Patrol said the motorcyclist, Stephan Elk, 67, of Delray Beach, Fla, was dead at the scene. The driver and two passengers in the other vehicle reported minor injuries, but Alvarado said he did not believe they were transported to a hospital.
The eastbound lane of U.S. 24 near Granite between CRs 398 and 390 was closed, while the westbound lane was used for alternating traffic.
Elk, who was driving a 2015 Indian Chief, was westbound when he drifted into the eastbound lane and collided with Adrian Lagunas, 34, Roswell, New Mexico, who was driving a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder.
Elk was pronounced dead at the scene, and Lagunas and his six passengers sustained minor injuries that required no treatment.
Traffic was delayed for approximately five hours.
While the crash is still under investigation, alcohol and excessive speed do not appear to be contributing factors, CSP reported.
