Melanie Milam Roth was the recipient of this year’s Buena Vista Heritage President’s Award presented by outgoing president Kathi Perry at the BV Heritage annual banquet May 12. The award is give to a person who exemplifies volunteer service.
Roth has worked on the board for 19 years and is the grant administrator for Buena Vista Heritage. She is overseeing the wallpaper project at the Turner Farm and took care of the grant paperwork for the renovation of the Buena Vista Depot and its exhibits. She worked diligently to see that Town Hall in St. Elmo was rebuilt after the 2002 fire. She has filed a structural assessment grant with the state so that Buena Vista Heritage can start properly renovating the courthouse building and apply for state grants. She sits on the board of Chaffee County Heritage, which is putting kiosks throughout the county explaining the history of the valley. One kiosk will go in the park outside the Buena Vista Depot.
