Les Messamer
No medals were brought home from the State wrestling tournament by Buena Vista grapplers in Denver Feb. 15-17, but coach Jared Todd is positive about the season and the fact that the program is improving.
He noted that more points (19.5) were earned at state than have been gained in recent years and that three wrestlers advanced in the upper bracket further than has been done for several years.
Those three are Adam Masbruch, (who beat opponents who had beaten him earlier in the year), Zack Farber and Jake Fickle. Coach Todd feels that all Buena Vista competitors wrestled tough at state and that there were close matches that could have gone either way.
Special thanks were expressed by the coach to Jake Fickle, Billy Nelson, Josh Saar and Zeke Farber.
Those seniors have now finished their high school wrestling careers, and over the years qualified for State a total of 10 times. Their leadership helped to make this a year of improvement and more gains are expected next year.
