Volley Demons

Buena Vista senior Maddy McFee waits for a volley while senior teammates Lexi Petri (7), Shea Moss (8), Sage McGinnis and Lindsey Pratt (5) await the action Aug. 22 against Atlas Prep.

The Lady Demons volleyball team stands 1-2 after their opening week of play.

They opened with a 3-0 Tri-Peaks League win over Atlas Prep Aug. 29 before a rambunctious home crowd.

The ladies traveled north Saturday to play perennial powers University and Eaton and dropped both contests 3-0.

It was pastel night on Thursday and the student body joined in with dress and energy to support the home team.

Senior Lindsey Pratt and Sage McGinnis led the team in pounding the ball to the floor across the net.

The entire squad was sparked by their effort and joined in.

Buena Vista sent the visitors home early, winning 25-12, 25-8 and 25-4. The team and student body joined in singing the school song after the final point. The rendition was followed by an all out dance party.

Friday it was back to class and then an early morning bus boarding on Saturday to head north.

The Lady Bulldogs from University gave the road crew a rude awakening when they put them away 25-14, 25-15,and 25-15.

The Lady Demons had the opportunity to regroup prior to facing the Lady Eaton Reds at 4 p.m. The outcome was similar though when they were dropped 25-17, 25-13 and 25-15.

“We had two extremes this week,” said BVHS coach Jamie Page. “The girls did a good job of focusing on some of our goals, including serving tough and in.”

The girls will back at home Thursday, Sept. 5, when they host 4A Woodland Park. The first games will start at 4 p.m. with the C, junior varsity and varsity teams all playing for the evening. Varsity game time should be approximately 6 p.m.
