Three Buena Vista mountain bike racers achieved Legacy Rider status at the Southern League meet Oct. 6 in Eagle.

Seniors Logan Trenkle, Toby Galyean and Grady Bott all received the distinction by competing in the Colorado High School Mountain Bike League for all 4 years of high school. Trenkle will go on to compete in the state meet Oct. 19-20 in Durango.

“Toby and Grady fought to the end and finished their high school MTB career on Sunday,” noted coach Kathy McMurry. “The team could not be more proud of these seniors.

“They brought leadership, expertise and endless amounts of fun to the Buena Vista Racing team.”

“It was a great weekend and everyone raced well,” McMurry said. “Freshman racer Joe Meakim showed amazing sportsmanship and sacrificed his own race to help an injured racer on the course. Kindless acts like this are what we love to see in the BV Racers.”

Off the bikes, the weekend completion was the Buena Vista team coming in loud to secure the Noise Maker win.

Qualifiers from the league race for the state meet included varsity boys Logan Trenkle; JV girls Charis Mayton and Hannah Volpe; sophomore girls Mitcheck Colley, Zharria Heinitz and Elena Dunn; sophomore boys Ace England; freshman girls Avery Bott; freshman boys Owen England.

In the sophomore boys division there was a three-way tie for the top spot for the Southern League champion. Ace England ended up second in the tiebreaker after considering points for all events.

The Colorado High School State Championships will be held Oct.19-20 in Durango.
