Two-Mile High Leadville, the location of BV Racing’s second prep mountain bike, saw lightning delays in the area cause racers to be pulled from the course during the boys varsity division race. A decision was made not to have the girl’s race for safety of the athletes.
“The Colorado High School Cycling League takes safety of all of the racers very serious and we stand behind the decision,” said BV Racing coach Taf McMurry.
A few Buena Vista racers got their races in prior to the weather interfering.
Ace England was involved in an exciting finish in the sophomore boys division when he placed second in a sprint finish and crossed hundredths of a second ahead of the third place finisher.
His combined time finish of 58 minutes, 7.24 seconds assures that he is still in possession of his leader’s jersey in the sophomore category.
Jackson Williams and Ben Gaston joined the team and added depth in the freshman boys division of the team.
With the abbreviated results Buena Vista ended up in 10th place for division 2 at the race.
The team races next at Snowmass Sept. 22.
