The Colorado Department of Transportation has issued a speed reduction on U.S. Highway 50 just east of Salida Thursday afternoon.

Motorists must observe the speed limit of 40 MPH from the US 50 and Colorado Highway 291 junction (MP 223) for a seven-mile stretch to approximately the community of Wellsville (MP 230). See the attached map.

All motorists, including the traveling public, commercial drivers and emergency personnel are urged to obey the reduced speed limit. The speed reduction is required for safety due to increased emergency traffic from the Decker Fire which is burning south of the US 50 highway.
