Quilts of Valor honors George Bayer

U.S. military veteran George Bayer was presented a Quilt of Valor on June 21 at the home of Sharon and Bob Martinez.

The second oldest of 11 children, Bayer grew up in a rural area near Clarkson, Neb. After graduating from the University of Nebraska, he joined the U.S. Army in August, 1969. He completed basic training at Fort Lewis, Wash., before being sent to Vietnam from January to December, 1970. Bayer completed the remainder of his army life at Fort Hood, Texas, leaving in June 1971.
