Buena Vista won two Tri-Peaks League games in the past week to improve their record to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in league.
They won 39-31 at James Irwin Jan. 10 and then 44-31 at home over Florence Jan. 11.
“We got off to a slow start at James Irwin when they came out in a different defense that gave us some problems,” said Lady Demons coach Robert Crowther.
The Jaguars led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter and 20-13 at half.
Crowther and his team made the adjustments at half and scored 13 straight coming out of the locker room to regain the lead and never looked back.
“It was not a pretty game but it is one that will help us be prepared the next time we go on the road,” said Crowther.
Mady McFee led the team in scoring with 22 points on an impressive 12-14 from the free throw line. She also pulled down 11 rebounds.
Eight players scored against Florence led by McFee’s 10, Sage McGinnis eight and Bailey Richie seven. The team out-rebounded Florence 39-24.
“I thought we had one of our best games where many girls contributed to the win,” said Crowther.
The Lady Demons faced a busy week in their second week of competition in 2020. The schedule included home games against Gunnison Tuesday and Battle Mountian Wednesday and then travel to Vanguard for a tough league contest Saturday, Jan. 18. The junior varsity team tips off at 11:30 a.m., followed by the varsity contest at 1 p.m.
