Gold Rush Days opens its live music schedule Saturday, Aug. 10, with the return of Mama Magnolia at 11 a.m., at the Buena Vista River Park soccer field.
The Denver six-piece band brings plenty of soul for their fans with Megan Letts (lead vocals, keys), Thomas Jennings (guitar), Zachary Jackson (bass, vocals), Carrie McCune (trumpet, vocals), Jackson Hillmer (drums) and Alex Cazet (saxophone).
“We love playing Buena Vista,” Letts says. “From events like Campout for the Cause to club shows at The Lariat, each time we play Buena Vista, it feels like coming home.”
Mama Magnolia specializes in performing what they call “the soulful side of rock,” though recently they have been veering more into indie-soul, too.
“Like a musical time-warp where Etta James fronted Lake Street Dive, we pepper this brew of soul and rock with boisterous horns, jazzy flavor, gospel heart, classical resonances and even a little hip-hop swagger,” Letts says.
While this is far from the band’s first concert in Buena Vista, it will be their first at Gold Rush Days, and one they are very excited for.
“We hope that at the end of our set, people will feel encouraged, rejuvenated, excited and part of the Mama Magnolia family,” Letts says.
“If you haven’t seen Mama Magnolia before, get ready to buckle up and enjoy the ride! If you have seen Mama Magnolia before, get ready for some new tunes and the classics. We’ll see you soon.”
