The Buena Vista High School Lady Demons cross country teams won two meets last week.

The junior varsity raced to first at Alamosa Friday and the varsity competed at CMC Leadville Saturday.

“We were able to see so much speed and strength come out of this time,” BVHS cross country coach Julia Fuller said. “The JV course was flat and smooth, which was really fun to watch our runners push their tempo and break through and set some new goals for themselves.

“The varsity team was able to show off just how much strength they have when it comes to taking on hills. That course is no joke and with a sprint uphill at the finish it makes for an exciting one too,” Fuller said.

Zalia Smith led the Lady Demons with a first-place finish of her own, completing th course in 20 minutes, 37 seconds. Teammate Maloray Salazar finished third with 22:14.

Aja Hogan paced the junior varsity Lady Demons to the first place team finish with a winning effort of her own. Hogan finished the race in 23:40.

The boys varsity team came in fifth, led by Rosston Sherlock’s tird place time of 18:55.

Next weekend, BVHS will be heading back to Alamosa for another race and to Colorado Springs for the pre-state race.
