The Buena Vista High School track and field teams finished second to Lamar in both the boys and girls divisions of the Tri-Peaks League Championships Saturday.

The Lamar girls scored 95.5 and Buena Vista was second with 75.5; in the boy’s division Lamar tallied 115 while Buena Vista put up 89.5 at the Grace Center in Colorado Springs May 11.

The girls 4x800 relay team won the league championship and set a new school record with a time of 10:41.98. The previous record had stood since 1992 when Nicole Vandemark, Rhea Hulsey, Deri Morrison and Jordan Crocombe clocked a time of 10:45.0.

Breaking the 27-year-old record last Saturday were Mallory Salazar, Molly McMurry, Anna Bearss and Aja Hogan.

Shelby Storms won the league championship in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches.

For the boys, Leyton Chupp ran his personal best to win the championship for the 110 hurldles in a time of 17.32.

The boys 4x400 relay team of Luke Yates, Chupp, AJ Smethers and Matt Thompson ran 3:45.16 to cross the line first and win the league championship.

Other girls placing and scoring points at the league meet were: Storms, 3rd, 100 dash; Kelley Vernon, 6th, 100 dash; Bearss, 4th, 800 run; Ruthie Molitor, 6th, 800 run; Kylee Davis, 6th, 1,600 run; Salazar 2nd, 3,200 run; McMurry, 3rd, 3,200 run; Bailey Richey, 8th, 100m hurdles; Lindsey Pratt, 2nd, high jump; and Molitor, 6th, high jump.

Relay teams that placed for the girls were: 4x100, 2nd; 4x200, 5th and 800 sprint medley relay, 6th.

In boy’s competition placers were Issac Hutchings, 4th, 1,600 run; Rosston Shelock, 2nd, 3,200 run; Chupp, 3rd, 300 hurdles; Tucker Storms, 4th, 300 hurdles; Brennan Pratt, 2nd, high jump; Yates, 3rd, high jump; Storms, 6th, high jump; Chris DeLuca, 5th, long jump; Chandler Smethers, 6th, long jump; Pratt, 8th, long jump; AJ Smethers, 3rd, triple jump; Pratt, 7th, triple jump; and Nathan Winter, 7th, discus.

Placing relay teams included 4x200, 4th and 4x800, 2nd.
