Buena Vista heads to the holiday break following a team win at the West Grand Invitational.
They scored 197.5 points to finish ahead of West Grand at 102.5 and Steamboat was third with 85. In all, 13 teams competed in the tournament.
Individuals placing first were Chris Hutchings at 113, Issac Hutchings at 120, David Arellano 126, Micah Hertrich 160 and Jim Gabriel 195.
Other placers were Elizabeth Torrens, 3rd at 106; Jackson Helmke, 2nd at 126; Sam Starr, 4th at 126; Aaron White, 2nd at 132; Haden Camp, 2nd at 145; Dylan Nelson, 4th at 152; Chris DeLuca, 2nd at 160 and Seth Moss, 2nd at 170.
“It was a perfect tourney for us at this time of year,” said coach Jared Todd. “We were able to all wrestle at the same tourney and work on some technique in live situations.
“Our goal was to show ourselves and others that we have improved and are willing to wrestle in a variety of situations with a variety of styles.
“It was a great ending to a very good first phase of the season,” Todd said.
The teams return to the mat Jan. 11 at Eagle Valley.
