Free corn

Chaffee County residents were all ears when Scott Pelino of Pelino Excavation posted on Facebook that a crop of free Olathe Sweet Corn was piled high outside his business on Highway 285.

Highway 50 was closed for about 9 to 10 hours on the night of Saturday the 10th when a semi truck "loaded with corn" lost control due to overheated brakes and rolled onto its side, Colorado State Patrol Sergeant Marshall Schwarz.

The crash occurred near Garfield at about 10:25 p.m. Saturday. The truck was eastbound, rolled on its right side , slid, struck a guardrail, struck the guardrail and slid some more as it rotated and struck the guardrail again.

The driver, Devonte Bryant of Fayetteville, Ga., suffered minor injuries during the crash. He was cited for careless driving, Schwarz said.
