The Walden Chamber Music Society has awarded two $1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors from Salida High School. Walden scholarships are awarded annually to applicants who wish to make music their college and career choice.

The recipients this year are Jasper Lau and Alan Mueller.

Jasper began piano lessons at 6 and has continued her studies since. In addition to piano she has also studied harp, violin and mandolin. She participated in several arts groups in Salida singing and playing a variety of instruments. At Salida High she joined both the Concert Band and the Jazz Band where she not only played but composed original works. Jasper will be attending Denver University to major in piano and further her composing.

Alan started playing guitar at the age of 7. He joined Bones’ Rok Skool where he expanded his playing ability and also picked up experience on performing. At Salida High School he picked up courses in music theory and joined the Jazz Band. He currently plays in several local ensembles and festivals.

He will be attending the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts in Liverpool, England where he wants to major in guitar and explore all facets of music performing.
