Humane society considered

Chaffee County’s approach to animal control appears to be turning another corner. An attempt will be made to establish a county humane society.

After a 2-hour-long meeting with Pet Assistance League Director Judy Moore, the board of county commissioners issued a call to persons throughout the county who would like to work on the establishment of a humane society to call their office.

Moore told the board she cannot continue to keep up the pace she has had since the pet assistance league job was established 2 months ago. She said that she has provided 24-hour service for persons needing help with stray, hurt or vicious dogs and has taken only 5 days off since June 1.

Moore insisted that the PAL concept is sound, but that more support is needed from the county. “It’s not a question of whether it will work, but what we have to do to make it work,” she said.
