Salida Aspen Concerts is proud to announce the selection of Michaela Hertrich, an undergraduate student at Colorado Christian University, and Alan Mueller, a graduate of Salida High School, as this year’s Encore scholarship recipients.

Salida Aspen Concerts offered two $1,000 Encore scholarships this year to students who live within the Salida, Buena Vista, Cotopaxi and Custer county school district boundaries and plan to study music in college.

Now in its 19th year of existence, the Encore scholarship program has raised community funds to support more than 30 student musicians.

Michaela Hertrich, daughter of Chris and Melissa Hertrich, is currently an undergraduate student at Colorado Christian University pursuing a double major in vocal performance and global studies.

Prior to attending CCU, Hertrich was a full time student at Colorado Mountain College where she received an Associate of Arts degree.

She has studied voice, piano and guitar and is currently a member of the Colorado Christian University Women’s Choir.

Hertrich has a strong passion for volunteering and plans to use her two degrees to teach children. She states in her application letter, “It is my hope that the global studies degree will provide me with a foundation to best connect with people all over the world while my music degree will equip me to teach and spread the love of music.”

Alan Mueller, the son of Ann and Jim Mueller, will be attending the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Liverpool, UK, to study guitar in the fall.

As an active member of the Salida High School band program, Rok Skool, and other local performance ensembles, Mueller has gained great respect and accolaids from peers and professionals alike.

He was twice (2018 and 2019) awarded both the Outstanding Soloist award at the Western States Jazz Festival in Gunnison and the Outstanding Musician award at the Mile High Jazz Festival in Boulder.

He also received the Maestro Award at the Worldstrides Music Festival in San Antonio Texas.

He states in his application essay, “It is my yearning dream to find my niche in the music industry...I want to continue to be a student of music forever, because I know that the more I learn about music, the more music will teach me about myself.”

Salida Aspen Concerts offers its sincere congratulations to both Michaela and Alan and wishes them both the very best in their future pursuits.
