The monthly meeting and program of the Heart of the Rockies FiberArts Guild will be Friday, Nov. 1, at The First United Methodist Church, 228 E. Fourth St., Salida. The social time begins at 9:30 a.m. with the meeting and program starting at 10 a.m.
The program this month will be given by Guild Member Carolyn Nelson, who will show examples of and tell about her work as an award-winning Fiber artist.
Carolyn works obsessively with hand stitching on hand-dyed backgrounds overlaid with silk threads that are also hand-dyed.
One of her intricate pieces may have thousands of individual stitches that use subtle colorings to allow the works to shine and gain depth. Carolyn is a master colorist whose work has garnered numerous awards.
Speaking about her art, Carolyn says, “ I make art because it is the only way that I can see what I imagine and I am committed to making the kind of art that I would like to leave in this world.”
The breadth, depth and nuances of her work may be seen at the Nov. 1 meeting and also on her website www.carolynnelsonart.com.
