Wouldn’t it have been awesome to witness what the shepherds did on the day of Jesus' birth. “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,” Luke 2:13. What a thrill that must have been to not only see but also hear that magnificent heavenly chorus sing.
God was celebrating the coming of His Son to earth with several humble shepherds. Honoring them with the news while kings like Herod were left in the dark. Proclaiming in no uncertain terms that “Peace on Earth” was now available to mankind.
What a sight! What a sound! What would you say if I told you it’s going to happen again and this time you’ll be a witness? Can you imagine, angels filling the sky?
God will do a repeat performance, for all to see, when His Son returns a second time. “For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay every man for what he has done.” Matthew 16:27
No one will be left in the dark. Even the dead will behold the heavenly host. Yet many will be no more ready for this coming of Christ than King Herod was His first appearing. For these angels are described as “mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance upon those who do not know God and upon those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.” 2 Thessalonians 1:7b-8
When angels once again fill the sky it will be an occasion of breathtaking joy for those who have already discovered the significance of Christ's first coming. Christ came to deliver peace on earth by providing a way for man to be reconciled to God. He died so that I might have life. Romans 6:1-6
Someday, perhaps someday very soon, we will all share in the experience of those humble shepherds. Won't you make it a joyous occasion by being born anew in Christ? John 3:1-16 Then you too can look forward to the day when, once again, angels fill the sky!
