This weekend, Buena Vista Drug celebrates 50 years at its current location at 403 U.S. Highway 24 South.
The BV Drug staff invites you to join them Saturday, Aug. 17, for a 50th anniversary celebration with hot dogs and chips, cake and prize giveaways.
BV Drug owner and pharmacist Lucas Smith will make celebratory remarks for the occasion around 1:30 p.m., and Chaffee County Commissioner Keith Baker will present a proclamation. Then the anniversary cake will be cut and served.
Attendees can register to win a Kindle Fire, an Amazon Echo or one of many other gifts. While supplies last, there will also be a giveaway for tote bags, water bottles and mini first aid kits.
The pharmacy was moved from Main Street to its highway location in 1969 and run by Freida Thompson and her family.
It changed hands in 1983 when Tom Smallwood purchased the pharmacy.
Lucas and Jill Smith took over operations in 2017.
Over the years, the pharmacy and gift shop have expanded to offer even more goods and services to visitors while implementing new technology in the changing times.
Some of these additions include vaccinations, the online patient portal, the interactive phone application, a disposal for unused or outdated medications and even a drive-thru service.
“I appreciate the support of the community, and I enjoy being able to expand our services and helping the members of our community with their healthcare,” Smith says. “I feel honored to be the third owner of the pharmacy that has been around for 50 years and has still been a strong business in the community.”
“It’s been fun, it’s been a good experience,” Gena Bell, BV Drug wellness coordinator adds. “I’m proud to work for a company that prides itself in being able to take care of the community and be a good partner with the community.”
A short 50th anniversary video for the pharmacy can be viewed on their Facebook page at Facebook.com/bvdrug.
Everyone is welcome to stop by BV Drug and join the celebration, Smith said.
