The Ark-Valley Humane Society held a grand opening for a new 1,200-square-foot addition that provides a welcoming new entryway to visitors, as well as a more peaceful room for cats, visiting rooms to allow visitors to meet animals in a quiet space and an outdoor meet and greet yard for dogs.

AVHS broke ground on the project in December. Prior to completion of the new space, cats stayed in kennels along the wall of a main hallway in the shelter, through which staff move back and forth throughout the day, and where barks from the dog area could be heard.

The new cat room in the corner of the new addition, along with its adjacent outdoor cattery, provides a space with less commotion, creating a brighter, less stressful environment for cats.
